What is the National Disability Insurance Scheme?
The NDIS is a government-funded initiative which provides individualised support to people under 65 with a permanent and significant disability.
The NDIS enables eligible people with a disability to choose the services they receive and who provides them. The scheme covers the costs of reasonable and necessary services and equipment.
Am I eligible for the NDIS?
You may be eligible for the NDIS if you are under 65 years of age and have a permanent and significant disability which substantially reduces your ability to participate in everyday activities. Some children under 6 years of age with a developmental delay are also eligible.
You can check your eligibility by using the NDIS Access Checklist. If you think you may be eligible, the next step is to contact the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) who administer the scheme on 1800 800 110 and ask for an Access Request Form, which is required to register for the NDIS.
Will Guide Dogs SA/NT continue to provide services to me if I can’t access the NDIS?
Guide Dogs SA/NT is committed to providing equitable and accessible services to clients, regardless of NDIS eligibility. If you aren’t eligible for the NDIS, Guide Dogs SA/NT will continue to provide services to you.
